Description
The Nuclear Energy Agency is a platform for international cooperation, analysis and joint action with 34 member countries that comprise the most extensive expertise in the development, application, and regulation of nuclear technologies. As such, the NEA is focusing much of its efforts on understanding the need for issues facing the deployment of advanced nuclear energy technologies to address the energy transition that many countries around the world expect to occur over the next decade, and towards the milestone, many countries have set to reach carbon neutrality by 2050.
As countries grapple with the difficulty of these goals, the role of nuclear energy appears to many--though not all--to be essential. The work of the NEA highlights where advanced nuclear might fit in the energy transition and the challenges that must be addressed if this potential is to be fulfilled.
